Week Two
Creating a Sustainable Plan
This year, I would like to bring the various elements of Wellness to the workplace. I have come to the realization that we spend a considerable portion of our lives at work. Finding ways to make this time productive while not taxing your health can sometimes prove to be a challenge. We work in different capacities, but making sure that we are doing right by our bodies is something we all can do. Eating right, getting enough exercise and reducing your stress level are things that we all need to do. Finding out how to incorporate these things into your daily lives and how to maintain them will be your challenge for the next few weeks.
For the 2014 Spring Weight Loss Challenge, we will focus on ways to improve these different areas of our lives. We will look at the benefits of eating a plant based diet, how to make this a part of your life for years to come and to truthfully assess how you feel on this new diet. We will go to the gym and work out together to increase our endurance and prepare for various important events. Lastly, but most definitely not least, we will look at ways to bring peace to our daily existence through yoga, acupuncture and meditation. Most of you experienced the wonderful Yoga demonstration last Monday that brought us to a peaceful oasis in the middle of the workday. I will reach out to you this week to get an idea of how many of you are interested in participating in a Yoga at work program which could take place at both sites. We will discuss possible times to take a field trip to Integral Yoga to experience their institution which includes a Natural Food Market and Apothecary.
As we move through the Plant Based Diet For Beginners: The Natural Way to Look & Feel Your Best by Susan Ellerbeck, I will be doing healthy cooking demonstrations at our Church Avenue location. The dates are April 8th and 22nd, May 6th and 13th, and June 3rd and 10th at 1pm in the Staff Lounge. For those of you who would like to participate in this way we will meet briefly on Friday, March 28th at 12pm to discuss the menu for these dates and the necessary grocery items needed. I will collect the money to purchase these items on April 4th. I am really excited about Tasty Tuesdays.
In the upcoming weeks, we will go over:
Week 3: Introducing a Plant Based Diet Week 4: Making the Best Food Choices
Week 5: Dealing with the Protein Issue Week 6: Changing towards a Plant Based Diet
